I want every officer (including yourself,

please) to keep an accurate diary of his work, every day, next week. At the end of the day, I want a special note made of work

not done which has to be left over till the next day.

The notes are to be as full as possible.

His Honour

The Chief Justice,

I beg respectfully to enquire with what object Your Honour wants the Officers of my Department and my -self to keep a full diary of our daily work. Your Honour's minute has come as a surprise to me; and I submit with great deference that Your Honour has no right to interfere with my Department.

Registrar,

(Sd.) A. Seth,

Registrar.

14th.March, 1908.

The Registry is my Department; and/wish to

know what the work done is, in order that I may report - for the benefit of the officers - whether they are over worked or not: as I intend to get if I possibly can the Registry put on a proper footing. I am always hearing that the Department has too much work and too small staff. I think it is so: but before reporting the matter I want the officers to assist me – if only in their own interests.

His Honour
